Today a large padded envelope arrived in my mailbox! Enclosed was an autographed copy of re-de-sign by Cathy Whitlock. She has written a text book for university interior design programs. We are very honored to be included in this beautifully written new book!

Fairfield Books, the publisher, describes it as "This book is a clear and concise survey of the field of interior design, providing a look at the newly expanded role of the interior designer and offering an array of career alternatives from the tried-and-true areas of residential and contract design to specialty design. Hickory Chair and its associates is very honored to be included throughout the book. Profiles of Alexa Hampton, Mark Hampton and our own Cathy Mitchell are included as well as quotes from Jay Reardon. Hickory Chair room scene and silhouette imagery was selected to illustrate the book from cover to cover!

Giving Thanks

In our lives we come across a multitude of different personalities. This week we enjoyed getting to know a dynamic group of designers and sales associates from all over the United States. These talented purveyors of fashion through interior design inspired us with ideas for product development, our catalogs, our web site and in a multitude of other areas. We give thanks to everyone's willingness to share!

A New Personality for the Taylor Chest

Studio W Interior Design, in Akron, Ohio attended HCC University in November 2008. One of their designers was inspired to personalize the Taylor Chest by Thomas O'Brien.

To complete the special construction they sent a drawing and specified that we:

- Replace the standard Antique Ivory finish with Antique French finish.

- Then they asked that we paint black and silver vertical stripes on the front and sides.

- Lastly they provided their own COHTM pulls.

This Taylor Chest is sidemarked "Showhouse" along with an 84" Made to Measure Farm sofa without arms, a pair of farm wing chairs and a set of Connecticut arm and side chairs in Antique Worn White finish. Hopefully our friends at Studio W Interior Design will share pictures of their showhouse!

Suzanne Kasler - In The News!

Yesterday the Atlanta Journal Constitution featured a story about Suzanne's signature motif - the quatrefoil. The article "Ancient Motif: In The Now" speaks to the quatrefoil as a symmetrical Medieval symbol that explored the influence of nature in architecture. Suzanne is quoted, “I’ve always loved its symmetry; it is curved, yet has some strength to it,” the Atlanta-based designer said. “I thought it is such a classic in design and architecture and brings a lot of style and personality to a space.” The article goes on to show great examples of quatrefoils and how they can be used to accentuate great interiors. Mariette Himes Gomez Update

Mariette was recently featured by Architectural Digest in the February 2009 issue. Mariette has also been busy with a significant addition to her furniture collection by Hickory Chair. To be launched at the spring furniture market in High Point, NC in April, these exciting new pieces will be in stores in May! The Hickory Chair showroom is located in the IHFC building on the 8th floor.
