Mariette Himes Gomez

Mariette Himes Gomez is one of the industry's most respected designers. We at Hickory Chair have had the great honor of working with her since the launch of her colleciton in 2002. The Mariette Himes Gomez Collection is a wonderful assemblage of pieces inspired by her travels and antique shopping all over the world. A large introduction was launched at the Spring 2009 market and the pieces are in stores now.
She will be the speaker at the International Home Furnishings Center on Sunday, October 18th at noon. She will be speaking on Design Today outlining the foundation of her great design - the influence of architectural character of a space along with scale and proportion. The presentation will be held at the IHFC, 11th Floor, Green Wing in Ballroom B. For more information contact Holly Allred hallred@ihfc.com.
To see her collection in person, visit the Hickory Chair Showroom at IHFC, Space CG800.

Our friend, Mariette Himes Gomez was recently featured in an article in the Litchfield County Times online site CountyTimes.Com. This top story Designer Takes on the Chair, showcases how very involved Mariette is not only with Hickory Chair's new introductions, but her client's projects, a new book Apartments (due spring 2010), licensed collections including a fabric collection with Hinson & Company, photographs with Soicher-Marin and her custom rugs through Doris Leslie Blau Gallery, New York.

In the article it follows her amazing career from its humble beginnings to where she is now. With the launch of exciting new pieces for her very successful seven year old Mariette Himes Gomez Collection for Hickory Chair, she revisited the 20th Century looking to intriguing forms from the 1920's, 1930's, 1940's and 1950's. Her astute eye brought together a diversified mix of new pieces for the collection that blend not only with her existing collection, but with the other offerings from Hickory Chair.

High Point Market!

It is hard to believe that the spring 2009 furniture market in High Point is right around the corner! We are all hard at work finishing up new market introductions, swatching the new fabrics, proofing price lists and writing press releases. In two weeks we will have our sales representatives attending presentations to learn the nuances of the new products. Then on Friday, April 25th our doors will open and we will reveal the AMAZING new introductions.

What is new this season? What is NOT new is my best answer! Not only do we have some beautiful new Mariette Himes Gomez pieces, but also we have amazing upholstery introductions as well! I have already spilled the news about low profile swivels that is an answer to many wishes during the past HCC University I Wish sessions. We are making hundreds of wishes come true this season. Some of them are "I wish you had more exposed leg sofas that are scaled like your skirted sofas. I wish you could leave off the skirt and add a beautiful leg. I wish that you had sectionals with right or left arm corner sofas so you could use just 2 pieces to make a sectional. I wish that you had more chaises. I wish that you had more exposed wood M2M pieces." Shown are the new Gentry M2M series from our Upholstery collection. These and many other wishes are coming true this season.

March 23-25, 2009 HCC University

We had a wonderful HCC University event this week! Our dynamic group was from many areas of the country including Illinois, South Carolina, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina and Alabama. With the diverse backgrounds including a to the trade showroom, boutique stores, interior design firms and a designers from a large chain of stores, we enjoyed sharing ideas, feedback and wishes - some of which we heard for the first time!
We really appreciate everyone taking their time from their family, work and home to spend time with us. We hope that everyone enjoyed the experience and will find providing solutions to their clients easier than ever! We also hope that everyone will stay in touch and continue to share their wishes. This will help us more than you know to keep our line relevant and fresh!
We were able to give a sneak preview to our new April 2009 market introductions! We are making countless wishes come true this market! For example, I wish you had low profile swivels. Imagine the Soho Chair, Rawlings Chair, Peterson Chair, and others as swivel chairs! The best part is that they are available now! Your Hickory Chair sales representative or customer service representative can assist you now!
Mariette Himes Gomez has an extensive new launch of distinctive pieces this market. Mariette's ability to find unqiue forms that transcend both modern and classic interiors have led to the collection's success over the 7 years since its inception in 2002. She has always been attracted by intriguing profiles particularly circular forms. Her inspiration for the April 2009 introduction is best exemplified by her own words "In this new collection I find myself in an international and eclectic frame of mind." She wanted to add a new dimension to the mix with profiles and forms that were missing from the marketplace.
I wish we could change the height or depth. I wish you had a sleeper sofa. I wish that you had sectionals with corner sofas and corner love seats so we could make 2 piece sectionals. I wish you had more fully upholstered scaled exposed wood sofas. I wish you could change the legs. I wish you could change the arms. I wish you had a wide flat arm sofa. These and more wishes will come true with Silhouettes Upholstery. Your Hickory Chair sales representative can give you a more thorough sneak preview to the upholstery program that may transform the way you view upholstery forever!
